 Welcome Back TTA Members

Welcome Back TTA Members:

The 2007 tennis season will soon begin!  The first activity at the Park is the Earth Day Clean-up on April 21.  The Friends of Prospect Park have organized this clean-up in an effort to have the park ready for the summer.  We welcome anyone who would like to come and help beautify the park.  TTA will meet near the tennis courts at 9 a.m. rain or shine.  Bring a rake and gloves.

Our tennis activities begin on Tuesday, May 8, with Women’s Doubles.  The Round Robin Kick-off is Saturday, June 9.  A light breakfast will be served.  Carol and Joe Pillsworth are employed by the City of Troy to direct the park activities. We are fortunate to have them back to run our clinics.  Lessons are free to our members. A schedule of programs, dates and times is printed on the back of this letter.

Prospect Park is recognized by the USTA as an official Welcome Center.  Some USTA Summer League matches will be played at the park.  15-Love is offering FREE lessons to children ages 4-18 and adult beginner lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer. For more information, visit their web sites at:  www.USTA.com or www.15-Love.org

In celebration of Prospect Park’s Centennial, TTA will present One Hundred Years of Tennis Fashion on Saturday, August 4 after play.  If you are interested in getting involved, or if you can contribute some tennis clothing from the past or wooden tennis racquets, please contact Ellen Weston at:  786-1128.  It should be a lot of fun!

Last summer, the City of Troy and Friends of Prospect Park worked collaboratively to have the tennis courts repaired.  It was very positive to have the government and the community working together to achieve a common goal. TTA played an active part in the negotiations and would like to thank everyone involved in this endeavor.  We are working on a plan with the City to improve the restrooms and to replace some of the existing nets.

Thank you to Barbara Butler and Ann Di Nuzzo for their many years of service.  Barbara served as Membership Coordinator for five years and did an incredible job!  Ann Di Nuzzo served at least 15 years as the Women’s Chairperson for Thursday morning doubles. Her dedication and effort is appreciated.  Judith Maguire is the new Membership Coordinator and Gail Bertrand is the Women’s Chairperson for Thursday morning.  Welcome Judith and Gail!

Thank you to the board members, chair persons and volunteers for another successful year and to our members, both active and inactive; your support is greatly appreciated.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone very soon!
